A fun descent through the woods followed by several stream crossings and a nice long climb make this another fantastic shortcut from Highway 24 to Highway 67. You’ll probably like it so much that you’ll turn around to ride it again and again.

Originally a rail bed, Phantom Canyon Road is now part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway. Following the path created for the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, this route through a spectacular canyon climbs 4,424 feet in just under 30 miles.

From the high-altitude mining town of Cripple Creek, Shelf Road follows a canyon cutting through the Pikes Peak Massif down to Cañon City. Gorgeous scenery abounds through this entire route with distant mountain vistas, green valleys and red rock walls.
