Ghost Trains, Tunnels and Bridges
Originally a rail bed, Phantom Canyon Road is now part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway. Following the path created for the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad, this route through a spectacular canyon climbs 4,424 feet in just under 30 miles.
Ride a Canyon Wall
From the high-altitude mining town of Cripple Creek, Shelf Road follows a canyon cutting through the Pikes Peak Massif down to Cañon City. Gorgeous scenery abounds through this entire route with distant mountain vistas, green valleys and red rock walls.
Short But Oh So Sweet
Foxton Canyon is one of the shortest dirt roads on the website. But, because of it’s amazing scenery and the roads and trails nearby, it’s one of our favorites. You’ll see rock spires, giant boulders and granite domes, a long abandoned hotel and some of the best blue-ribbon trout fishing in Colorado.
A Front Range Hidden Gem
Tucked into the foothills southwest of Boulder, this hidden gem is a great little getaway. It’s also one of the few roads that cut between the canyons in the North Front Range.
